    Wow, and nobody could have seen this one coming. Proof that the demand is low: I've never even seen one!

    This.

    I'm not even all that sure what they look like.

    I think I'd get dizzy and fall over in a building like that, the lack of any straight walls would make me lose my visual bearings. :p

    I would imagine that the internet will present it's share of problems. Having the OS scale won't solve the problem of everything on the internet being 72 dpi. Yes, we can scale the text, but I'd imagine it will still be a huge mess once they start cranking up DPIs on the monitors.

    I don't understand the huge mess part of your comment. You can always display things at a size that is comfortable for you. It was when screen resolution was fixed that everything was a huge mess.

    With fixed resolution a designer never knew if his product was going to be displayed at 640X480, 800x600, 1280x1024, widescreen, etc. etc. Now a designer can design at a suitable resolution and the user can scale to a size that is pratical for them.

    It is a good thing people. Don't worry.

    Beyond that, I would try creating a new admin account (or logging in as one if you already have it) and using Software Update. It'd be an interesting test to see if the problem is relegated to your user or is a system-wide problem.
    You know, I was going to try the new admin trick, but when I went to set one up, I could only create a standard user. I have to look at the help docs to see how to create a new admin. It was late and I was tired when I was trying to do this last night. I am still scratching my head over how it could have happened to both the laptop and desktop at about the same time.
    Weird.

    Thanks for your help,
    Rob

    Technically AM3 CPUs will work in AM2+ boards. Problem is that DDR2 is a dead end at this point. DDR3 is so cheap nowadays I see no reason in not buying it and enabling yourself to use newer CPUs and chipsets.

    As far retail stores - vast majority of people working at those stores don't have a clue. Also, not to sound sexist but why would you ask women to begin with? Yes, I've seen women that know about this stuff but they are rare and far between. Of course not to say that I can't imagine hearing such nonsense from a male employee.

    T-Mobile in my area rents its airtime on Cingular's network. This is coming from 2 friends, one who works for T-Mobile and one works Cingular

    While this is true in your area, it doesn't contradict what I said.

    T-Mobile, contrary to what the person I was replying to said, does have its own network. In most areas where it operates, it is not using Cingular's network. In some areas, it uses Cingular's, and in others Cingular uses its, but in most areas, they're both independent of one another.

    T-Mobile is the aggregate of most of the independent GSM operators that were coming online in the late nineties. Most of them were bought by Voicestream, T-Mobile took over Voicestream and then bought Powertel.

    var browser=navigator.appName
    var b_version=navigator.appVersion
    var version=parseFloat(b_version)
    if ((browser=="Safari"||browser=="Konqueror"||browser=="Microsoft Internet Explorer")
    && (version>=0)) {alert("Your browser environment is not fully supported!")}}

    Stick an alert in your code to test the return value of navigator.appName, or in your case the 'browser' variable... you should find this is actually "Netscape" for the Safari browser, hence your problem.

    check out the Safari FAQ (http://developer.apple.com/Internet/safari/safari_faq.html)

    hope this helps!

    Sorry, a very poorly constructed sentence. I meant that MacWrite and MacDraw were present in the "all original disks and cassette tapes" (hence my use of two 'and's in that sentence I'd mentally turned them into a single item).

    I turned down the $1000 Mac on the basis that without having any idea how much the item should cost, it was unlikely I'd chance upon the correct price like this, and I'm not so interested in owning one that if $1000 turns out to be well below average then I'll be forever regretful.

    For the record, I've recently seen one go on eBay with no boxes, the original floppy drive broken (but an external one provided for booting, etc) go for a little over 600 and there's currently one on eBay without boxes but fully working and exceptionally unaffected by time, with an external floppy drive with a buy-it-now price of $775.

    I remember exactly where I was when I heard that. I shot home after work for the news. Walther Cronkite always handled pain so well.

    He was in the band Pantera, and was shot/killed while performing for his other band in 2004

    The original Airport cards can do WPA, but only on 10.3.9 and above. If you're having trouble connecting, try turning off the router's N mode if it has it. I've found turning it off helps it connect.

    I have! One. ONE! A coworker has one. It's really nice, actually. A very worthy competitor to the Touch, but it is obviously totally overshadowed by anything Apple puts out and Microsoft doesn't seem to have a clue how to get behind something when it's not the top product in a category. I think this is really too bad.

    I have never tried it, but I would think it would not hurt to ask.

    yea i dont have time to visit an Apple store before wednesday (when i'm buying it), and their phonelines are always '+8 people infront of me in waiting' so i gave up on calling them after about 10 minutes of waiting :(

    Wouldnt want to go there on wednesday only to find out i have to CTO. Would dieeeee

    The pictures seem like they have a low shutter speed, or the sound is the problem?

    The mirror flapping around probably takes around 1/8 of a second and makes much more noise than the shutter.

    Actually i had an iMac G3 as a server to my at the time main computer, the eMac. surprisingly it was fast, the iMac had a bigger hard drive so i'd keep my web design apps on it's server partition and connect to server when i needed them. I used sharepoints on OS X Jaguar. Worked really well, I'd also stream videos and store files. Suprising what you can do with a 266 Mhz iMac G3 with only 96 mb of ram.

    I've noticed in the last day that all the links on the left and topics on the right are now in italics (and they maybe bold as well). I use opera & explorer here, and I'm not sure how it looks on safari, but it's hard to read on both of those browsers.

    The Centris 660av was one of the shortest-lived Apple models, and I would guess it was one of the rarest. It was only in production for two months before it was replaced with the almost-identical Quadra 660av (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_Quadra_660AV). (The Centris name had been introduced as a "low end" Quadra with the Centris 610, but after the 660av came out, they merged the brands for simplification purposes.)

    I have what is, last time I checked, a working Centris 660av. Well, the hard drive is gone, but it has an external SCSI drive that boots it. That drive could probably be put inside.

    I am in the process of moving, and really need to down-size my stuff. The Centris has no use to me (it's 25 MHz... yes Mega), but I love the kitschiness of how rare it was.

    I saw one go on eBay for $10. Hardly a fitting end for such a cool Mac (a pizza box, as these models were called). Can anyone help me find a better home for it?

    Yeah, Bay Area news reporting isn't always the most reliable. They too probably heard that it was the ATT stores not having the iPhones for walk-ins and got confused like everyone else and reported an incorrect story.

    But hey, if people want to rely on that, get discouraged and not wait in line, more iPhones for me, bwahahhaah.

    Also, Apple would have announced if they weren't going to have any devices for walk-ins.

    I totally agree with you. haha... I hope it does discourage some from lining up.

    Yeah, sorry. Those too.:)
    Thanks :) It would be sad if only Intel-chips could enjoy this.
    With +- 80% PPC-users it would be a bad move from Apple to.
