Lores Giglio Fudge Hair Expo Show

Yesterday was a huge day for me at Hair Expo. Three shows in one day! Early call times on a Sunday should be illegal. My last show for the day was the Lores Giglio for Fudge hair show at the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre, which was part of the Generation Next Hair Expo show.
When I arrived it was all systems go! I had seven people working on me at once prepping my hair, doing makeup and doing my finger nails and toe nails!
My hair was first crimped, then had huge hair pieces attached to my head, then my real hair wrapped around it, sprayed black and then had blue, green and purple hair pieces pinned around sections.
I was styled in a fabulous Romance Was Born black and gold body suit and long skirt, lace leggings and sequin covered rainbow shoes.
The show was great and all the hair creations looked amazing!

Yes. That is my real hair. Crimped within an inch of it's life!

Alexander McQueen show at the Met

Friends, I have neither the skill nor the familiarity with the subject to write a valid critique of Savage Beauty, the Alexander McQueen show at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, which I was fortunate enough to see yesterday.

I'm also not the right person.  Asking me to review the McQueen show is like sending Doris Day to review a Metallica concert.  (I actually had to ask Michael, who's sitting beside me at the moment, to give me the name of a heavy metal band, which only proves my point.)

Everybody has a dark side, I suppose, and Alexander McQueen's was apparently very dark.  He killed himself last year.  The Met cashes in on this, and the exhibit -- sponsored by the Alexander McQueen fashion house (owned by the Gucci Group), American Express, and Conde Nast (publishers of Vogue) -- has an exploitative, death-culty feel, though it certainly burnishes the brand.

Savage Beauty showcases approximately 100 of McQueens dresses -- mostly gowns -- and a wide array of accessories: hats, shoes, and jewelry, and many beyond categorization.  They are extraordinary costumes -- the types of outfits you see Lady Gaga wear in music videos. They are only distantly related to what I (most people?) would consider fashion, i.e, what people actually wear or how they aspire to dress.

Clothing displayed in a museum exhibit is usually couture, which is custom-made for extremely wealthy clients -- red carpet stuff.  Opulence abounds.  And most runway shows these days are more about theater and garnering headlines than fashion. McQueen was a master of this kind of luxurious spectacle.

To me, the show is too big and, like a bad movie, hammers home its themes lest you miss the point: through much of it, macabre-sounding music plays in the background; the lighting is dark, the mood creepy.  Throw in some animatronic figures and row boats, and you'd be in the Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion rides at Disneyland.

And just like a Disney ride, you empty out directly into the gift shop, where you can buy the book, the T-shirt, or some postcards.  Ka-ching!

See the McQueen show for the extraordinary use of unusual materials, including duck feathers, human hair, and every sort of S&M leather fetish accessory.  Enjoy the spectacle.  Expect to rub elbows -- if not more --with hundreds of other somewhat dazzled (dazed?) tourists.  Wear comfortable shoes.

When you're done, treat yourself to a trip to the Central Park Zoo, an ice cream cone, or maybe a ride on the carousel.  You'll need it.

Model Co event

Yesterday was the Model Co and Myer event held at the Myer city store in Sydney. Similar to previous launches for Obsidian Lingerie and Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins, we performed pop up dance fashion shows down the stores mezzanine staircase, this time wearing hot pink swimsuits by Seafolly! Joining me were my friends Ame Delves (who also choreographed the shows), Sarah Jane Coombe, Melissa Ambrosini and Daniel Garofali.

Back to NZ!

Day 1:
It was that time of year again...time to head back to beautiful New Zealand for the summer fashion shows! This time the team and I headed to Christchurch. We've been there so many times now we know our way around the city so well! We landed at the airport, dropped our suitcases off at the hotel and headed straight to the venue for an afternoon of fittings and rehearsals.

Day 2:
We had the morning off so it was time for some retail therapy and some exploring around Christchurch! In the afternoon we headed to the venue for hair and makeup before the VIP night fashion show. I had a little 50's inspired floral swimsuit outfit complete with a white rubber swimming cap covered in flowers...I'm pretty sure I've seen photos of my grandmother in a similar outfit! Haha! After the show my roomies and I ordered room service and watched some movies.

Day 3:
More shows today followed by DIY mani & pedi's in the hotel room and the yummiest dinner with the Aussie cast members of the show at a little Italian restaurant just a short walk from our hotel. I didn't catch the name of the restaurant but I'm sure we'll be heading back there next time!

Day 4:
Last day of shows today and we definitely did our best shows of the week! So much fun! After the last show we headed straight to the airport, our flight was delayed for a half hour but we were soon on our flight back to Sydney. We landed and I had to rush straight to the Con Pasion and Crystal Boudoir shows suitcases and all! I was so exhausted after two fashion shows, two contortion shows and an international flight I crashed in to bed the second I got home. zzzzzzzz

Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins & Myer summer launch

Yesterday was Myer's Get ready for summer launch featuring swimwear from Jennifer Hawkins label Cozi at the Myer city store in Sydney! We did a similar fashion show earlier in the year for the Obsidian lingerie launch. It was a long day but lots of fun and I loved the swimwear, beautiful colours!

Here is the video of the fashion show featuring my beautiful friends Ame Delves, Sarah Jane Coombe, Katie McMahon and myself!

Going for the gold

I'm backstage at a Westfields fashion show in hair and makeup wearing the OPI Glitzerland nail polish, which has fast become a new favourite of mine. I love gold and metallics! Totally heart this.

New York Bridal Gala

Last night was the VIP media launch of Angela Wilson's New York Bridal Gala. It was a lovely intimate event held at an apartment in Sydney. The dresses were beautiful to wear and the jewelery and accessories were stunning.

Here comes the bride...

Just finished up at the Doltone House bridal fashion show tonight down at the wharf in Pyrmont Point. This is a photo of my finale gown...black! Does anyone really wear black on their wedding day?!? Perhaps for the more outrageous bride but was fun to wear for the night nonetheless!

Just do it!

A couple of nights ago I performed in the Nike fashion show for the Rebel Sport 2010 conference at ANZ stadium in Sydney's Olympic Park. It was a 'battle of the brands' so to speak with all the major brands putting on a show. Nike of course being the ultimate sporting brand was the final show for the evening and certainly had the crowd going!

I opened the show with a few contortion moves which was then followed by various dance performances by a bunch of my favourite dancer friends including Ame Delves, Sarah Jane Coombe, Melissa Ambrosini, Laura May, Michael Boyd, Troy Harrison and David Denis. American B-boy William Sanchez closed the show with some crazy moves like spinning on one hand! Amazing!
Nike even gave us all a couple of pairs of sneakers which was so nice of them! I scored some orange, pink and silver Lunarglides and some pearlescent pink, grey and white Air Max Lights.

Auckland show

Last week I flew out to New Zealand for a fashion show in Auckland. It was a very quick trip with lots of fittings and rehearsals so not much sleep was had but it was so fun to travel with a big bunch of my friends. We get booked on the same shows a lot of the time so it makes trips like this lots of fun!
We had to be at the airport at stupid o'clock (translation: around 4:30am) for our flight, this was followed by lots of duty free shopping of course! We landed in Auckland, dumped our bags at the hotel and spent the night in fittings and rehearsals. The following evening was the show so the afternoon was spent in hair and makeup with a quick run through backstage. The show went really well, I had a few issues with some misbehaving accessories, but it was fun! One outfit I wore in the show was a bra and matching satin pants with big white angel wings which were decorated with real flowers, ribbons and crystals! The wings smelled like a big bunch of flowers!!
