SAO PAULO (AFP) - The event in South America's biggest metropolis stretches through January 23 is a marathon of 39 shows from 37 local designers' firms.
Along with Gisele Bundchen, an ex of Actor Leonardo DiCaprio now engaged to American football star Tom Brady, British swimsuit model- fashion model-muse Agyness Deyn, seen by some as a "new Kate Moss," was here to walk for Ellus.
Though the global economic crisis has left few untouched, designers have tried to put a happy face on the event, saying they were hoping it would spotlight the happiness of Brazil's people. They also are paying tribute to Carmen Miranda, the quirky fruit-bedecked Portuguese-Brazilian performer who made 14 Hollywood films. This year marks the centenary of her birth.
Among Brazil's top designers putting on shows are Alexandre Herchcovitch, Osklen, Colcci, Cori, Ellus and Maria Bonita.

Gisele and Tom Brady mum on engagement rumors
The talk in Beantown is over the alleged engagement of model Gisele Bundchen to New England Patriot star player, Tom Brady, which is not confirmed.
TMZ reported that the injured and sidelined QB proposed to the Brazilian fashion swimsuit model and entrepreneur on a private Christmas Eve flight to Boston.
When asked about the engagement, Brady said nothing and left the home with Gisele and her parents, Vania and Valdir, according to local Boston news reports.
TMZ claimed Tom had four dozen white roses, champagne and his possible future in-laws aboard a private jet when he asked Gisele to be his wife.
Brady popped the question, and Gisele allegedly said yes.
Gisele’s twin sister, Patricia, claims the TMZ story is “not true.”
In Touch Weekly had a report this past October that Tom had visited Cartier in Beverly Hills (prior to his first knee surgery) to see a $145,000 five-carat yellow diamond engagement ring.
Tom was in a long relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan, the mother of his son John Edward Thomas Moynahan. Gisele was once romantically linked to Leonardo DiCaprio.
Brady and Bundchen recently purchased a $12 million dollar property in a gated community in Brentwood, Calif., where they will build a home.

Adrian Lima : Adrian Lima says she’s a virgin
Adriana Lima, who’s one of the world’s best paid super models and famous swimsuit model, insists that she is a virgin.
The 27-year-old beauty, who has been a Victoria’s Secret ‘Angel’ for eight years, is planning to marry Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric, who plays for U.S. team the Memphis Grizzlies, next June, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The stunner’s first fashion show for Victoria’s Secret was in 1998 and since being contracted as an Angel in 2000, she has appeared on subsequent shows ever since. She was most loved by many famous modeling photographer of fashion world.
She starred alongside Mickey Rourke in 2001 film The Follow and played herself in an episode of Ugly Betty this year.
Meanwhile, Adriana was also in news for being the face of world’s most expensive bra costing 5 million dollar. (ANI)
