It's a mid 2010 MBP. I'm not sure what factors might be at play so I'll just list what I was doing before I tried turning it off. I turned the notebook on about 3 hours ago, the Internet works intermittently since my router is dying but while it was working I tried visiting macrumors. Halfway through loading the page the I lost Internet so I tried plugging it in directly to the modem and I realized the bar that contains the airport and battery was non responsive so I shut it down.
Right now, as it has been doing for the past hour, it is stuck at the blue shutdown screen. The little rotating loading thing is still rotating. Should I just wait for the battery to run out or what? Any help would be appreciated!

Question: What's the difference between a tethered & untethered jailbreak? :p I don't know much about it.

I have a G3 iMac (2001 Slot Loading, OS 10.3.9) that will not accept the Memorex CD-RX Rewritable disks I bought. Is there something I can do to format these so they work?
Heather, what is "CD-RX?" I've never heard of that format. Is that interchangeable with CD-RW? The latter is the standard read-write format supported by most burners....

This is awesome. Hopefully quality control is still great after this move.
That's what I'm worries about too, but hopefully everything will work out fine.

Question: What's the difference between a tethered & untethered jailbreak? :p I don't know much about it.
Do you know what a tetherball is?
What's the difference between a tetherball and a ball? A cord\cable\string.
Tethered = when you reboot it has to be connected to your PC
Untethered = when you reboot it doesn't have to be.
You should google the question next time, don't be lazy.

Hello,
I am looking for the best solution to my home theater. Currently I have a 100 projector hooked up to a ps3, xbox 360, and a net book. I also have an ipad and iPhone. I am looking for the best way to get videos I download on my macbook pro onto my big screen.
Right now i download the files (to my MacBook pro, usually divx or mkv) then transfer with a USB drive, andopen it on my net book. I feel this is a cumbersome process. IS an apple tv what I need or can I make it work with the equipment I have.
I also would love a way to stream my music to that sound system. I am sure the net book could do all of this, but its performance is pretty awful.
Will the apple tv fair better? I am assuming I would need to jailbreak it to do what i need, right?

Will iTunes advise me when a CD is being duplicated so I can save the time it takes ripping that one and allow me to move on to the next?
If not, once I've re-ripped my 2 or 300 CDs, is there a simple way to delete the dupicates out of iTunes? What if they are different versions of the same song - exactly but from different sources (different CDs, like Artist X, then Artist X Greatest Hits, or Artist X as part of a soundtrack compilation).
If you did not change the music file description, iTunes will not make duplicates.
If you deleted files properly (using iTunes), you should not have duplicate files.
Live music of course would have different metadata than regular version, and thus will be added if you have the regular version already.
Search your iTunes library (iTunes spotlight). It's faster than putting a disk in, waiting for the the cd description to be downloaded, etc. But why wouldn't you know what music isn't in your library? I have thousands of CDs and I can tell what cds I don't have in the library.
What space limitations? I started ripping loseless into iTunes over 5 years ago and I never had to delete any of it.

I can add that I checked with a technology instructor who compared her iPhone to mine and noticed that even when she manually put in her schools internet specifications, it still didn't access the internet. It can see the wifi, but when you select that little blue arrow to the right of the network name, there are no settings showing at all. Of course, on her phone, everything shows up. Apparently my phone can see the network but fails to connect.
Do I need to go to the Apple Store and see what the genius's there can tell me?
Or, because it's nearly 2 years old, do I just need to upgrade to a new phone and tell them that this one is defunked?

If your MDP->DP cables are from Monoprice (or are the same as those from Monoprice) then that's your problem. Those cables are crap. They don't send a proper active signal or something when you start up.
You need to get cables from at least Circuit Assembly.
You can read about how we discovered everything about this in this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1001577).
For now, though, to get your Mac Pro started, before turning it on, unplug the MDP/DP monitors so only the DVI monitor is in, and turn on the machine. Wait for the grey screen to appear on it and then plug in the other monitors again.

If you're a developer who needs to alter, update your code because of the new verision of OSX, its definitely worth it. If you're an apple fan wanting to play with the DP, then no its probably not worth paying the price for a developer's account with apple

You have a mac install disk right?
If so just put the disk into the computer and when the computer turns on hold the "c" key. This will boot your g4 from the install cd, from there just start the install process which will format you HD.
Or if your system already has a hd in it with osx installed and you put the 15gig in there also then when you start you computer go to the disk utility located in the utilities folder which is in the applacations folder. From there you should see the HD on the right side. Select it and go to the erase tab to format it.
