My 11yr old has his iPod touch in a soft rubber case by Speck. He is a boy so they aren't exactly gentle. iPod still looks brand new.

Something just occurred to me. People who happen upon this site from a Google search or following somebody else's link might not necessarily know what "Mac" means. I don't see the word "Macintosh" anywhere on the home page. Maybe the byline should be "Macintosh news and rumors you care about".
Same for MacBytes: "Macintosh News, Headings, and Links".
An aside: The Apple home page, hot news page, and hardware and software pages together use the word "Macintosh" only once! But people browsing Apple's site probably know what Mac stands for.

Everytime is slow for me. On top of that, I think it's pretty buggy. I tried to send some emails that were only like 3 sentences long, and I get an error saying that the message is too big!

Check out this cool GPS tracker device from Sony (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0608/06080202sonygpscs1.asp), made to work with digital cameras. The reviewer assumes that it uses the timestamp information to match photos with the GPS tracker log. Apparently the hardware is cool and the software is weak.
Another review (http://scilib.typepad.com/science_library_pad/2006/09/my_review_of_th.html) of the Sony GPS-Cs1
GPSPhotoLinker (http://oregonstate.edu/~earlyj/gpsphotolinker/)is Mac software to geotag photos in iPhoto.
LoadMyTracks (http://www.cluetrust.com/LoadMyTracks.html)allows you to convert the GPS tracker log file to GPX or KML files.
iPhototoGoogleEarth (http://craig.stanton.net.nz/software/iPhotoToGoogleEarth.html)allows you to link photos to Google Earth so you can "fly" to that spot on earth. You need to have the photos geotagged already.
Also, GreaseMonkey (http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/)with some DHTML scripts allows you to geotag photos in Flickr.
BlockRocker (http://www.blockrocker.com/service_flickr.php)can help you with tagging in Flickr.
Here's some general info (http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~rakerman/geocode-photos.html) on geotagging photos.

I'd like to read that if anyone can find it.
Ya some guys brought a big party tent and had two projectors in it. One had XBOX 360 and the other Sportscenter. They also brought a barbecue and made everyone pork and bacon and other stuff. They were awesome.
I'm guessing you didn't get an iPad that day, correct?
I did get one! I was one of the last people. Maybe 50 people behind me by the time I got up there.
I got the Black 32GB Wifi. They ran out of about half the models by the time I got there. This model was my seconds choice, but it's an upgrade from the 16GB Black Wifi model that I was planning to get :D

REally.. I didn't see much post about them.
I am really thinking of taking this mbp to apple store.. For over 2k, this is not good. My $500 pc laptop is working fine w/ the external monitor which I really need to get some serious work done at home.
A new mbp software update is out.. try it and see if that fix the problem !

I don't know if you are aware of this.... Can't you wait until June/July for the release of Final Cut Pro X (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/13/final-cut-pro-x-demo-nowhere-near-final-version-more-on-final-cut-studio-apps-coming/)? looking at the video demo (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/13/video-of-final-cut-pro-x-introduction-now-available/), it seem's awsome...
Not sure what shortcomings will the X version will have compared to the current FCP Studio, since the price difference is huge.
cheers!
Even though FCPX Was just announced there was no word on the other FCS apps....

That's... great. Really nice story waloshin. Probably one to tell the grandkids.
I actually just told it to all my friends and posted it on FaceBook. It's quite the hit, right next to Little Red Riding Hood.

I sure hope not. Plus I updated to 4.3.1....I hope that wasnt a mistake.
If you're waiting for a jailbreak, why would you update? If you have done the SLIGHTEST bit of researching on this forum or any jailbreak forum, you would know NEVER to update until it is clear that a jailbreak exist for the firmware that you are updating to.
If the jailbreak doesn't support 4.3.1, you have NO ONE to blame but yourself.

Say you have 2 laptops with the same size screen, but different resolution screens, e.g. 17" LCD, one with 1920x1024 and another with 1440x768.
Right now the Apple menu and the text on it will appear smaller on the higher resolution screen, because the pixels are smaller and the size of the menu bar is defined in pixels.
On the resolution independant system the size of the menu bar (and everything else) will be the same, regardless of the size of pixels. So the menu bar will be 1/4 inch high instead of 25 pixels.
Nice explanation dr_lha :)

I have a similar setup also. My "media center" is a mac mini connected to my TV. It has external drives that store all my media. I can access the data from my 2 macbook pros, iphones, and my apple tv in another room. It works great.
If you wen't with the two drive setup through the mac mini... why not make one drive nothing but the media storage hub. Then make the other drive the backup drive for everything in the house. (partition it 4 ways?) including a backup for the media on the 1st drive.
The way you described you would be backing up time machine backups. To me thats a little over redundant.... then again, you can never have too many backups.

Heh, I was just sorting out my console collection today and found my 'Cube. Awesome little machine that was. But yea you should probably get;
Metroid Prime 1+2
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Mario Kart Double Dash is okay
Smash Bros Melee is brilliant
F-Zero GX is brilliant
Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 4 are pretty fun too
Mario Sunshine? It's got some great moments but it's not as good as Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy.

It's not that I have an innate fear of soldering :) the task indeed sounds fairly straightforward and from a rational perspective very little can go wrong but there is just something about connecting 2x $500 SSD's with a cable that underwent some DIY soldering that does not sit too well with me and I can't really test it with a cheapo PC first too as that does not have any backplane cables that have male SATA DATA/POWER header.
It's a better connection than using crimp connectors, and is how your expensive electronics are manufactured (all the components are soldered to the PCB). ;)
Soldering wire isn't as common as crimp connectors due to costs (more labor intensive to solder, as well as more expensive materials and equipment is used).
I believe I will instead purchase the kind of cable you posted a link to and stay away from soldering or using nuts and crimp connectors. It probably won't turn out much more expensive either as I won't be needing that SATA Y splitter, but a regular widely available 2xSATA power that connects to molex will do with a cable like in link.
Either way will work, so it's up to you (soldered version isn't quite as messy IMO).
Also have found this one, but it's 1m long! No info on how long the one in your link is too.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1m-Hard-Disk-SFF-8482-SAS-Cable-29P-1-SATA-7P-Cable-/130468432498?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e60864a72#ht_645wt_901
The one I linked was 0.5 meters. You cannot go over 1.0 meters in total cable length with SATA drives, so please keep that in mind (the signal voltage is weak, and anything longer causes stability problems).
And this one, but it has 2x SAS connectors on the main female header so I doubt it will be compatible with the backplane connection cable on the Mac Pro.

The discussion of strategy will only have Apple's weaker competitors gunning to copy products.
Increasingly desperate Dell and Microsoft really have nothing to loose and everything to gain.

What exactly do you think people will be doing on a TV? Using CAD??! It's a fine resolution for movies, browsing, music etc.
Why the hell would I want to waste space and money on something that gives me the same resolution as a monitor half its size. This is about computer displays, not family room displays.

Hi All,
I've unfortunately been issued a work PC, so I'm wondering if there is a way to take advantage of the real estate (not resolution) of my 30" ACD. The only way I think this will work is by doing the following:
1. Connecting the MiniDisplay cable from the Dual-Link DVI adapter into:
http://storeimages.apple.com/1837/as-images.apple.com/is/image/AppleInc/MB571?wid=326&hei=326&fmt=jpeg&qlt=95&op_sharpen=0&resMode=bicub&op_usm=0.5,0.5,0,0&iccEmbed=0&layer=comp
2. Mini DisplayPort Coupler (Female to Female)
http://images2.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/65001.jpg
3.Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
http://storeimages.apple.com/1837/as-images.apple.com/is/image/AppleInc/MB572_AV1?wid=326&hei=326&fmt=jpeg&qlt=95&op_sharpen=0&resMode=bicub&op_usm=0.5,0.5,0,0&iccEmbed=0&layer=comp
Is this a solution or should I prepare myself for failure? Is there a better way to do this?
Thanks!

Also, it won't give you the same style of selective focus as a tilt-shift lens. A tilt-shift lens allows you to shift the focus around in a line where a Lensbaby moves the focus around in a circle.
I wish I could find some example photos showing the difference but there don't seem to be any.
