There's no reason to run Garageband on a secondary drive, unless of course you're taking a performance hit due to a drive filling up.
But back everything up, multiple copies of .aiff's, .aac's and especially .band's.
Thanks, man. That's definitely what I'm going to do now.

still the yoobao is superior to this..
Superior? At least the ZooGue doesn't Sleep/Wake with the cover is wrapped to the back. That to me is a deal breaker until the yoobao fixes that.

Same Here! No 10.6.7...doesnt even show up in software update. I called apple. they dont have any info on why. All the rep said is the new model might have any bug fixed and so it doesnt need 10.6.7...
That dont sound right tho.
The only reason I knew is because Steam said it couldn't install portal 2 on 10.6.6. strange. We will see.

I havent gotten my ipod yet.. but i will be soon, so i am trying to upload my CDs on my powerbook in itunes. I was wondering if someone could explain to me what apple lossless is in general terms and how it works? I am still kinda new to Macs so could you explain it fully. I noticed that after I imported my CD, I would go to the advanced menu in itunes and selected convert to apple lossless... it then converted my files. I went into my music folder that holds all my files and i see that i have 2 of everything I converted with apple lossless. The file extentions are the same sooo... what is going on here. I would like to know also if converting my songs to this format will allow me to have more room on my ipod???? What is the positive and negatives of this converting? I just need someone to explain this whole apple lossless idea to me and what it does. Thanx in advanced! ;) :)

Incredible numbers. Well deserved.
AT&T sold 3.6, apple says 18.65. Did verizon sell the rest of the ~15 million?

So now that MR is being discussed heavily around the net you guys/gals decided to redesign the site, huh(?) :D....looks very nice :). And congrats on all the press you're getting. But you took away the voting option (that sucks) it was one of my favorite features of MR.

Actually just read another post about 64-bit and 32-bit kernel and wondering if that is the root cause of my issue?
I will try the 32-bit when I get home later.
Incidentally, will I notice much difference between 64-bit and 32-bit?
Will update later :o)

I think this patent could be used for several things that aren't the iPod.
1. A universal remote for iTV and FrontRow (that would function somewhat like SallingClicker).
2. Perhaps for use in an Ultra Portable? This is such a small, niche market that I doubt Apple getting involved in it at this time, but I would think that holding a machine with both hands and using your thumbs on the bezel instead of a joystick could be great. It would be faster and more convienient than a touch screen.*
3. New touch-sensitive bezel on iPod shuffle. Ok, that is just ridiculous. I said several above and I didn't want to change that to 2.*

I have an IBM thinkpad r40 that I purchased new two years ago and I had no idea that I needed to renew the warranty within the warranty period or you can't purchase another one ever from IBM. (This probably has to do with the whole Lenovo exchange stuff). Anyway, it has about 2 years worth of wear and tear and I'd basically be selling it for parts.
If you know how to fix computers then this computer will work just fine for you. There's been some stuff going on with the screen and it might be the video card and I'd rather just retire it. I don't have money to get a new laptop right now so I figure I'd just sell it for what I can get.
Everything functions fine except for the screen that has lines on it and I don't know wussup with that nor do I have the funds to find out. I have all of the backup cds and stuff and it comes with:
-the basic ultrabay ibm cd-rw/dvd-rom drive
-P4 processor
-like 1.2-1.4ghz processor speed (I can't check right now b/c the way the screen is acting)
-384mb of RAM
-Windows XP Home SP2
-original install and backup cds that came with the computer
-battery
-power adapter/charger
I really don't know what else to do with this laptop and it has some good parts in it if you didn't want to fix it up. You will need to add your own hard drive, but that's relatively inexpensive as well.
I paid about $1000 for this laptop, but since I don't know what the deal is and cant really afford to get it looked at I'm willing to sell for $300 shipped.

There is no reason that internet images can't scale right along with everything else. Just because something is bitmapped doesn't mean it can't scale nicely. There are a million decent algorythms for scaling bitmapped images.
Yeah I don't think so. Unless you scale it to an exact multiple, it's going to look like crap.

Are there converter programs for ogg. and flac files for the Mac?? I am a pc owner switching to Mac in a month or two and was hoping to still download off this site and convert the same music files I'm use to converting now.
Thanks :)
Amadeus Pro will convert just about anything. It costs $40 but is well worth it imho. Otherwise, there are plenty of free programs that will do the same.

One of the things that irritates me about iTMS is the fact that I can't play my purchased tracks on anything other than an iPod.
This doesn't currently affect me as I own an iPod but I would like to be able to use them on other devices as well (such as AAC compatible phones etc.) . This restriction means that I do not purchase as much from iTMS as I might otherwise.
I am wondering how much extra money Apple gets from locking users of iTMS into the iPod system.
Would 'de-regulating' FairPlay in this way encourage owners of other players to buy from iTMS and would this extra revenue offset that losses from lower (potentially) from iPod sales?

Thats why I bought 8GB memory and 256GB SSD from Apple in my new MBP. Compatibility and the fact that if ANYTHING goes wrong with it I don't have to futz with it.

the laptop has a internet connection to the same router as the desktop as 192.168.1.103. it's easier to disable that so i wasn't too concerned about it turns out when i do then the ethernet connection works. i thought either by putting the ethernet interface first in os x's priority list and/or making a route for it that it would work but neither seemed to do it.
From your desktop can you ping 192.168.2.2 and from the laptop ping 192.168.2.1?
From the diagram and your description, the laptop doesn't have a wireless connection. So it's a bit puzzling when you say it keeps trying to use the wireless. How are you trying to copy files, using Finder? Try scp'ing using the ip addresses you gave, if the pings work.
BTW, I've got my laptop with a 192.x.x.x address for the wired connection, and a 10.x.x.x address for the wireless. It's having no problems seeing both networks.
no pinging doesn't work

Indeed, AT&T should be doing it especially once the 2 year contract has expired-- as should Apple themselves.
Furthermore, Apple should be selling factory unlocked iPhones in the US.
It's funny because when a bunch of lawyers (or lawyer'd up consumers) went after ATT solely for the purpose of unlocking the iPhone after the contractual obligation, people were like:
WTF WELCOME TO AMERICA WHERE THE HOOKERS ARE CHEAP AND THE LAWSUITS ARE PLENTIFUL
or my favorite
WHY OH WHY CAN'T A COMPANY JUST MAKE A PHONE FOR ATT AND NOT VERIZON IT'S APPLES CHOICE.
Those who are familiar with the lawsuit will remember clearly that having the iPhone on verizon (at the time) was never a goal.
So it's the consumers fault on this one.

They got their value out of Connectix in Virtual Server. Like it or not the Mac stuff was just the tip of the iceberg.
Also, Microsoft made its money not through Virtual PC, but through the Windows license that you had to buy with it. If you buy Parallels, or use Bootcamp, Microsoft loses a few dollars from the Virtual PC sale, but they still get a big chunk of money for the Windows license. I would say 75% of their revenue and 100% of their profit stay intact.
